Ballettikka Internettikka (www.intima.org/bi) is a series of tactical art projects which began in 2001 with the exploration of internet ballet. It explores wireless internet ballet performances combined with guerrilla tactics and mobile live internet broadcasting strategies.
After invading The Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow (March 2002), La Scala in Milan (November 2004), The National Theatre in Belgrade (October 2005), Volksbühne in Berlin (July 2006) and other institutions and their concepts, Štromajer and Zorman will perform a new internet ballet – Ballettikka Internettikka: Stattikka – as a part of the Tele-Plateau – Performative Installation in Hellerau, Dresden, illegally broadcasting live from the roof of the targeted skyscraper (Lippo Centre) in Hong Kong, in front of the densed cityscape, using a sad and lonely commercial Silverlit R/C Robot Program-a-BOT, dancing an Almost Static But Still Transitive Net Ballet for 30 minutes in an apparently stagnant Hong Kong dawn.
Lippo Centre is a 20th century double-building (Lippo Centre 1 and Lippo Centre 2) skyscraper built in a shape of two panda bears hugging each other.
The artists will also use two laptops, two MiniDV cameras, MP3 audio systems, a video mixing device and a public unprotected wireless internet connection point (wLAN), available for free in the area of the Lippo Centre (Admiralty, Hong Kong – signal strength on the roof of the Lippo Centre 2: 2/5) and free RealProducer (version 11.0) and Live LE software for streaming video and live audio manipulation.
Dancing a wireless internet ballet on the roof of the skyscraper in Hong Kong represents a big conceptual and strategic challenge to the Intima Virtual Base and all the collaborators, therefore, the preparations have been taken seriously, safety measures have been calculated, and the previous experiences have been very welcome.
The robot often cries. Why shouldn’t you?
