OPEN CALL für Sonic Pi
choros Hackathon “cybernetic garden”
Topic: Mapping & Meaning
Time: 12.-16.10.21, 14-19 h // Location: Bastelbox, Jordanstraße 2, 01099 Dresden
How is data mapped and what meaning can be generated with it?
The neue raeume; collective has various devices for tracking environmental data. These include a VR environment with Kinect that measures body movement data, devices for measuring the electrical conductivity of plants, muscle tension sensors and breath sensors. You are welcome to bring your own devices! The aim of the hackathon is for human and non-human (technical) actors to create an inclusive, multi-sensory soundscape – a cybernetic garden – as choros (ancient Greek χορός chorós = dance) through physical movement. We want to test the current state of development of the VR project VIRTUAL CHOIR and the other devices with small sensitivity activities and get into an exchange of experiences. Based on this, your practice will begin. We will give you a helpful introduction to the most important functions of the developer environment Sonic Pi. In addition to technical questions, we want to explore the following questions during the choral practise:
- How can environmental data be interpreted in a meaningful way?
- How can the sensory interface be effective not as an instance of control but as a space of diplomatic negotiation and virtual encounter?
- Which habits want to be served or subverted and what kind of interventions are desired?
On Saturday 16.10.2021 we will present the results of our hackathon to the public.
The hackathon will be led by the Sonic Pi pioneer Sam Aaron and introduced by Katharina Groß ( neue raeume; Kollektiv). Programming skills on your part are a "nice to have", but not mandatory.
Write to us at kata@t-m-a.de if you want to take part and briefly answer the following questions:
- Who are you?
- Have you worked with Sonic Pi before?
- Do you have experience with programming, if so in which language?
- Can you bring a laptop, if so what type/brand and operating system?
